More about Edmonton Golf Courses.
Designed with a sand-strewn layout by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the Ironhead Golf Course is a shooters paradise. The course hugs the beautiful Lake Wabamun, making it one of the most picturesque courses in Edmonton. This is one of the area’s most challenging courses, and the challenge starts right out of the gate with the hazard-laden first hole, a 528 yard par 5 behemoth. The course features so many sand traps, 96 in total, that you might feel like you’ve spent the day at the beach by the time you return home.
If prairie golf excites you, visit the Coloniale Club. It is located right on the edge of the city, and is bordered by stands of oak, grain fields, and tall prairie grass. You’ll enjoy the sounds and sights of the swallows darting in and out, and crisp, fresh air as you play the course. The relaxing background creates the perfect ambiance for you to take on some of the more challenging holes, particularly the par 5 fifteenth hole. Fortunately the formerly 649 yard hole has been reduced to a mere 570 yards now, so you’ll have an easier time of it than golfers of the past did.
The Broadmoor Golf Club is a local favorite and probably one of the heaviest played of the public courses, so getting a tee time can be challenging at times. Many of the top ranked golfers have come here to play at this 40 year old course, something the course prides itself in. If you want to play the same course that many greats of also played at an affordable price, then make sure to visit the Broadmoor.
Whether you visit one of these three, or play at one of the many other outstanding public courses, you’re sure to leave Edmonton with a feeling like you’ll want to return to experience it all over again. Edmonton’s courses will impress you with their picturesque backgrounds and inspire you to challenge yourself to take your game to the next level.
